Movie screening of Lagaan
Lagaan is bollywood movie directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and produced by Amir Khan in 2001.
At last they won the match and his village get freedom from Tax and also from Britisher.
British rule in India
In this movie director present the real condition of Indian people under the British rule. They treat Indian people as slave of them,beat them and behaved very rudely.
In movie the captain of British people Andrew Russel told that
"You ,Indian people is like our shoes".
They collected the Lagaan (Tax)from indian farmers and they gave one part of this tax to king of Champaner ,Puran sign Jala.
Rural India
In this movie Amir Khan present the situation of India and Indian people. He present rural India here. How people lives their life,what was their situation etc.
House of villagers was ordinary one,they live simple life. Here also we can see the poverty of people.
In last year had not rain in village also in this year have not rain in village so people have tension about that how they will pay the Laggan (tax) to Britishers.
In other side the house of Britishers and castle of king was very much majestic. They live majestic life. The plate of this people was always full while the plate of villagers was not always full, sometime they had only ate '' rukhi - sukhi roti". So this situation show us that what was the condition of Indian people in that time.
About Love story
In movie Bhuvan has love with one lady who was a daughter of doctor of village named Gauri. Both love each other but one White lady(British ) she also fall in love with Bhuvan.
Here I have one question in my mind that why in every movie director mentioned about love story? Why he has not use only the main goal /aim of movie?
Here he can only mentioned the fight between Indian people and Britishers, no needs for mentioned love story. But in all kind of movie we can find love story ,either they are from bollywood or hollywood.
Power of religion in movie
From beginning to end we can find the power of religion in the movie. People had faith in God and always they celebrate the religious festival like Janmashtami.
When the villagers had problem they pray to God for giving them solution,they praying for help. Also religious symbols play a vital role in movie. Statue of Radha -Kishan became a symbol of love.
Team work and Leadership
Leadership of Bhuvan: Bhuvan made on team of Cricket players . He inspire people for play with him. When starting any game it is important for leader to have small wins to motive the team. So here Bhuvan start playing game with little boy Tipu and inspired people for playing. Here Bhuvan has not any kind of selfishness. He just wanted to make people free from the tax.
He also motivate people for accepting the challenge and give them courage for play the game very well.
Leadership of Andrew Russel: He always behaved rudely with his players of team. Inspire them to defeat Indian players. He had only one purpose , to defeat Bhuvan at any cost. He was not a good leader and can not understand the situation of his players.
Situation of subalterns
During that time people of lower cast has no reputation in society . People called them untouchable(achhut). People of upper cast treat them as a slave. Today also this untouchable people has same problem.
In movie there was one character named Kachra. His name mentioned his cast and how was the mentality of people in society for this cast.
When Bhuvan decided to take Kachra in his team other players were not ready to play with him because he was untouchable.
Here we can see that the subaltern ' s situation . In India ,people have still that mentality for untouchable people, though we called ourselves Educated.
Neighborhood of Indian people
In movie there were two neighbors who fight with each other every time. So this seen of movie presented the problem of people with their neighbours.In India we can find it still today.
Authority of Britishers
The captain Andrew Russel had power of his position. He always behaved ruled with others. He treat people , Indian people like his slave and had not respect for anybody. He used his power . He wanted to won the match but at last he could not won the match. He aslo had not good relationship with Bhuvan. He always in the awaiting for defeat Bhuvan . He felt that only he has power to ruling on Indian people and made them his slave. He behaved rudely with his sister Elizabeth.
Patriotism as a main theme
Here we can see that patriotism was main theme of movie. All had that burning desire for getting freedom from Britisher.
Character of sardar also had burning desire to fight with Britishers and make India free from slavery . Bhuvan 's all action present his patriotic spirit. They were ready to sacrifice themselves for the nation.
