Thinking activity about The Waste Land

'The waste Land 'poem by T.S.Eliot.
This poem is divided in 5 parts. All parts make various images about  The Waste Land.

1) What are your views on the following image after reading The Waste Land? Do you think that Eliot is regressive as compared to Nietzsche's view?or has Eliot achieved universality of thought by recalling mytho-historical answer to the contemporary malaise?

In Nietzsche's Ubermensch  we find morality. Nietzsche's point is about superhuman and Eliot's point is about backward looking . Both are right on their  own view but the also different from each other.
In the poem Eliot believes in God , spirituality and religion. In other side Nietzsche believes in superhuman who has strength and believe in own self. In our history also we can find that type of people who did not believe in God and try to rulling on people. That is good to see that one has possibilities of his/her own but if he/she tries to rulling over the people then one day God will punish them.
In Doctor Faustus he wants to become powerful and tries to got knowledge. But at last God punished him.
Eliot using  myth in the poem. Looking back and move forward in future with the help of past is one of the helpful way. He also mentioned  about reference of past  in his esaay Tradition and Individual Talent. So mythology became helpful . So I am not agree with Nietzsche's view.

2) What are your views reading the comments? Is it true that giving free vent to the repressed primitive instinct lead us to happy and satisfied life? Or do you agree with Eliot's view thet salvation of man lies in the preservation of the cultural tradition?

Freud believed in individuality and talk about primitive instinct. Eliot believes in preservation of cultural traditions mean together. So I think individuality and free vent may be spread anarchy in the society. So follow cultural tradition and do all thing together. As Eliot said that if all grew together and follow culture,it will bring happiness in the society.

3) Write about allusion to the Indian thoughts in  The Waste  Land.(where, how and why are the Indian thoughts referred?)

In the poem Eliot present  universality of thought and laws . In the last part of poem he mentioned the Indian culture and view from Upanishads.
So he said in the last part that

"Ganga was sunken ,and limps leaves
Waited for rain ,while the black clouds
gathered for distant over himvant
The jungle crouched humped in silence."

By this Eliot said about wisdom of India for spiritual salvation of modern humanity. He also uses three Da
1-Datta:mean giver
2-Dayadhvam :mean compassion
3-Damyata:mean self control

So at last in the poem he mentioned the word' shantih.' So he wants to make peace in the world and referred Indian thoughts in the poem.
