Poems by Robert Frost

1) Stopping by woods on snowy evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep

During his journey, the speaker was stopped by the dark woods and he think that he know that whose woods is it. Speaker has a horse and it has a bell in neck.the speaker and his little horse are chilling between the woods and a frozen lake.

The night was dark and deep he was all alone in forest. With some distance he found a hut  but no one was there.
The woods tried to stop him there but at last he said that he has not to stop there and have to continue his journey till death. So the last lines of poem is very significant.

2)Home burial

This poem is so long and about the child death. Here the father goes to bury the dead body of child and through window ,his wife a mother of child watch it.She can not tolerate the gloom of death of her child and gone in to deep sorrow. There was the scene comes of their battle and they have not understand each other.

Generally father figure have not shown the gloom but mother is more emotional than father and can not controller their feelings.I indirectly it shows the death of marriage life also because they were unable to understand each other.

3)The gift Outright

The land was ours before we were the land’s.
She was our land more than a hundred years
Before we were her people. She was ours
In Massachusetts, in Virginia,
But we were England’s, still colonials,
Possessing what we still were unpossessed by,
Possessed by what we now no more possessed.
Something we were withholding made us weak
Until we found out that it was ourselves
We were withholding from our land of living,
And forthwith found salvation in surrender.
Such as we were we gave ourselves outright
(The deed of gift was many deeds of war)
To the land vaguely realizing westward,
But still unstoried, artless, unenhanced,
Such as she was, such as she would become.

In this poem, poet explain the time ,America's history as a nation colonized by European countries. As years passed, however, they were able to build a commitment to the land and establish their identities as Americans because of their efforts to build a land that was not based on the traditions of Europe. In this way, the poem can be read as Frost’s personal celebration of manifest destiny.
Here poet present colonial idea and how people lost their nation and identity. By lot of struggle also they can not get their identity back because of colonialism.
