Project on Reading habit of students
During my M.A. in Department of English MKBU,I have done one survey on Reading habit of students. I had made one survey form and started the survey.
My Experience:-
First I had visited MSC students who behaved well with me. Then I had mate different field' s students like BSC students, B.ed students, B.A. students,MSW Students, B.com students, BBA Students etc.they also gave me well response on this.
Most of them were interested in this survey because they found some new things like education with technology in the survey. Behave politely and gave the response very honestly. Most of them have question that why I am doing this?and I answered them that this is my task and for that I am doing this. Some of them were also asking about privacy of their gmail because they have fear that suppose I will make misuse of their ID but I have given the surety to them that this is only for my task and I will never misuse it.
I had mate so many students from various field but some of them have not their personal android phone. Some students have android phone but they have not mail ID and have internet problem.
Most of the students were interested so I enjoyed the work a lot.
Students response:-
The first chart is about reading ,as students hobby. Here most of the students include reading as their hobby but this 8.1% students doesn't like reading. They mentioned it clearly which shows that they accept the fact that they don't like reading. Here this acceptance is not an easy thing , one need more courage to accept this type of reality.
Most of the students goes with the option enjoyable,but in real sense it us enjoyable or not?Are they really enjoy reading or do it as a sake of doing. The green mark of the option which is not in chart ,it shows that somewhere and somehow students like to read something.
This chart mentioned that most of the students are using both ,online source and books. Only7.9%students who use online source for reading rather than books.
In this chart ,students use most of the books for reading rather than e book or some important websource. There are some important news in newspaper and article in magazine also which helps students for education.
Here most of the students mentioned that they are searching material online. Here some of them not searching material online means they are using more books rather than internet for educational purposes.
Here 83.1% students found that the material they read on Google is really exam oriented . But 16.9%students think that this is not helpful for exam. But I want to say that there may be the mistake in their searching because google have all the information.
In this chart most of the students goes with the point that online material is helpful but somewhere and somehow they need books also.
If we came to the another question that where students actually like to spend their money , the answer goes with both,means they are spending their money for book and for entertainment.
Here the students who use other materials for reading which is not in syllabus,goes with 83.6%means moth of students like to read another things also. Other side 16.4% student goes with option 'No' means they are reading only that material which is in their syllabus.
In this chart most of the students goes with short stories which shows the area of interest of students.
Conclusion:-
So most of the students still like to read book rather than e book or other websource by reference of chart no 3 and 4 . They are searching material online but still there is the mentality of students that education could be done with pen and paper only. By the end of this conversation on the topic of reading habit of students we say that still in 21st century in India ,the idea of digital school or college is far away from students mind.
